Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your first session, often called an intake session, is a time for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions to understand your story and what brings you here. We’ll talk about your hopes and goals for therapy and think about how we can start this journey together. What you share will help me create a plan that fits you. Every therapy experience is unique, and yours will follow the goals and direction we set together.
-
Meeting regularly helps us create a steady and comfortable routine. Most people begin with weekly sessions, but we’ll find a schedule that fits your needs. Each session lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
-
You are welcome to have individual therapy sessions online through Microsoft Teams, while assessments are held in person at my Simon’s Town office. If you opt for an online session, try to find a quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection and a working camera, so you can speak openly and comfortably throughout our time together.
Online therapy may not be right for everyone, especially if you are in crisis, having thoughts of self-harm, or need more intensive support.

At Charnelle Weyers Psychology, my fees follow the medical aid tariffs set by the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). Please ask for the current rate.
My practice is cash-based, which means you pay me directly after each session. Once payment is made, you’ll receive a receipt that you can use to claim from your medical aid.
-
If you need to reschedule or cancel, please let me know as early as possible, and at least 24 hours before your appointment. Late cancellations or missed sessions incur a fee, which is not covered by medical aid and will need to be settled by you.

According to the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA, 2019), Counselling Psychology is a specialist category within professional psychology that promotes the personal, social, educational, and career functioning and well-being of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
Counselling psychologists support people through everyday life challenges and help prevent or ease mild-to-moderate psychological and mental health concerns. They are trained to assess, diagnose, and understand each person’s unique experiences and background. By focusing on the power of positive relationships, counselling psychologists offer a variety of interventions that highlight your strengths and resources.
To practise as a Counselling Psychologist in South Africa, one must complete a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, which includes advanced theoretical and practical training in psychology. This is followed by a full-time internship and successful completion of the national board examination, as required by the HPCSA.
